Cape Waterfront deal gets green light

Johannesburg – Growthpoint Properties [JSE:GRT]said on Thursday that all conditions for its acquisition of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town had been fulfilled.
They included approval for the deal by the competition authorities.
Growthpoint, together with the Public Investment Corporation representing the Government Employees Pension Fund, announced in February this year that they had entered into an agreement to acquire, in equal proportions, the iconic V&A Waterfront for R9.7bn.
The sellers were UK-based London & Regional Properties, and Dubai World. The V&A Waterfront is a mixed-use property development and a showpiece for SA as its most visited tourist destination, attracting in excess of 21 million visits a year.

Bronwyn received a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in Johannesburg, majoring in Economics. She started her banking career at a CorpCapital Bank on the Corporate Funding desk, and has since gained over 8 years’ experience in the banking industry in South Africa. She worked for a top South African property developer, Zenprop Property Holdings, for 3 years where she managed the group’s financial due diligence, capital raising and tax structuring.
Before joining Dubai World Africa in January this year and relocating to Cape Town, she spent 6 years at at Investec Bank Limited where she headed up the team responsible for the advising, underwriting and arranging of the debt required for the acquisition by Dubai World and London & Regional of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
In addition to the V&A Waterfront, Bronwyn has been involved in a number of prominent South African real estate transactions, either acting on behalf of the developer in assessing project viability, or as banker in the raising of debt required for the transaction. These include, amongst others:
Acquisition by the Australian based Stella Group of the Protea Hotel Group;
The ground breaking development of the Maponya Mall in Soweto;
Management buyout of Lanseria International Airport;
Funding, feasibility analysis and development of the One & Only Hotel in Cape Town;
Funding of niche retail centres: Design Quarter, Atholl Square and Vangate Mall.
She is passionate about real estate and Africa, and joined Dubai World as Corporate Finance Director to assist in their expansion into Africa and the realization of their vision which is: “to significantly impact on the growth and development of the African continent by partnering key stakeholders in identified African countries who share the dream of building a sustainable economy for Africa and creating thousands of jobs for Africans whilst adding significant value to our investment portfolio”.
