The Langkloof Orphans Fund was started by Chris & Carol Anne Mumby who run the Little Switzerland resort in the Drakensberg. This project is funded out of their own pockets having  taken orphans, the homeless and the people living in the Drakensberg Valley and given them HOPE. Starting by changing the lives of the kids, by building them a primary school fit with jungle gyms, soccer fields, loving teachers and food they extended their help to the High school by supplying them with a fully equipped computer room – again out of their own pockets. In keeping with the theme of ” Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime”… they have now built hydroponic farming facilities creating hope and happiness not just for the now but a positive outlook for these underprivileged people. Let’s help by not just giving but by teaching…. Let’s help in whatever way we can….. Let’s create not just a life but a life worth living. Our future lies in the hands of these individuals lets help them mould themselves into Presidents, Doctors, Farmers and more.

A contributor to this charity is  H.O.P.E. stands for “Help Other People Endure.” It is a non-profit organization started in 2003 by a group of Cincinnati teens. Its core members are Maya Amoils, Jordan Baird, Carly Brightwell, Amanda Cohen, Ellyn Guttman, Megan Levine, Christie Lindner, and Rachel Nussbaum. H.O.P.E.’s goal is to raise money in order to provide the members of Langkloof with living essentials and education. Most of the children in this village are orphans whose parents have died of AIDS. Many consider themselves lucky to have one meal a day or even a pair of shoes to wear in the winter. Residents of Langkloof do not receive help from the government and the village suffers from an 80% unemployment rate. Without substantial income, members of this rural community lack medical care and many necessary amenities such as running water, electricity, and clothing.The ultimate intention is to build a farm adjacent to the village that will employ residents, provide food, and improve the local economy.
